When you hear about an opioid addict deciding to quit using, it's easy to expect them to get off the drugs and quit cold turkey. The problem is, cold turkey leads to relapse with opioid addicts almost every time. They have the best intentions and find themselves back on the drugs, in one form or another, sometimes quickly, sometimes later, but almost always. With a long-term slow weaning treatment with a less dangerous, or receptor blocking medication, they can find long term if not permanent sobriety. Normies don't seem to understand the difference between a heroin user switching from heroin to pills and a heroin user switching from heroin to Suboxone, a drug that doesn't get you high, doesn't build tolerances and can literally prevent the user from using full blown opioids while they are taking it. Ignorant or arrogant 'recovery' people will also tell you that these drugs, Methadone and Suboxone are just as bad as the original addiction its self. I say bullshit! I have known many people who have gotten their lives back thanks to Suboxone. The only reason I would agree that Suboxone is "this generation's Methadone" is due to its popularity in use by addicts trying to kick a opioid addiction. But the two are not the same, they are incredibly different. We talk about this and more, this week, on The Sober Happy Hour!
